New Regional Co-ordinator for Taranaki
Barbara Aherne will be overseas for a while and in her absence Tesa Pilkington has kindly agreed to take over. We thank Barbara for the enthusiastic work she has done on behalf of NZAPEC and wish her well for her travels. Tesa introduces herself
"Hi everyone, my name is Tesa and having completed my Midwifery degree in 2008 at AUT, I now work at New Plymouth Base Hospital as a core midwife. I met Joyce at AUT and was also fortunate enough to have her as my 'mentor' during my first year of practice. When Barbara Aherne, the previous regional co-ordinator, asked me to take over her role I was more than happy to be involved. As midwives we can never learn enough about Pre-eclampsia and it's effects on women and their babies. Being aware of the latest research concerning prophylaxis for 'high-risk' women is an area of special interest to me. I was very moved by 'Susie's Story' in newsletter no.41, 2010. What a timely reminder for us to really listen to each woman and respect their intuition and instincts regarding their health and their baby's well-being. "
Thank you Barbara for your great work in setting up resource folders for our primary and secondary birthing units. I shall endeavor to continue on as regional co-ordinator for NZAPEC and wish you all the best in the UK. Please feel free to contact me through Taranaki Base Hospital or by email at
